One of the most asked questions is ‘what can we do in the Costa Del Sol’?
Cable cars, Teleférico Benalmádena, is a spectacular adventure that you simply must try! It is the only cable car you will find on the Costa del Sol.
The panoramic views from the top of Mount Calamorro, the highest peak in the municipality, are absolutely stunning and will quite simply take your breath away. You get to experience 360 degree views, from the Malaga coastline to the far off mountains inland.
The Benalmádena cable cars opened in 2000 and it has been so popular since then that it has become one of the main tourist attractions on the Costa del Sol. Don’t miss out.
The cable cars start in Benalmádena, there is ample free parking next to the old Tivoli Amusement Park (which is now closed down).
If you are able to, book your tickets online the day before as it is cheaper, you will be sent your tickets in an email and you just have to show the bar code on your phone and off you go. You can either buy a return ticket or, if you are feeling adventurous, you could buy a one-way ticket and walk the trails going down the mountain. Just be aware of when you go and how hot it will likely be at the time you will be descending.
Cable Car Ride and What to Expect
Riding in the cable car is a wonderful experience, you get an exclusive birds eye view, starting your journey over houses, gardens and the old Tivoli Theme Park, you pass over the AP-7 motorway and then go up, up and up the mountain. They even have an audio guide inside the cars to give you information and point out several places of interest that you can see. The journey to the top in the cable car takes around 15 minutes, you can fit a maximum of four people in one car.
Once you have made it to the top there are many viewpoints for you to marvel at the most spectacular landscapes along the Costa del Sol, the Sierra Nevada, Sierra Mijas and if you are very lucky and go on a clear day, you can see Gibraltar and even the African Coast!!
There is a map, when you get off the cars at the top, with hikes of different lengths and difficulty levels to walk through nature and enjoy the amazing sights at every turn, there are even mountain bike trails if you are feeling very adventurous.
Falconry Show
Every day at 1pm and 6.30pm, at the top of Mount Calamorro, are incredible birds of prey in flight shows. Discover the wonderful world of falconry, with the Fundación Valle de las Águilas (The Valley of the Eagles Foundation) and its spectacular flight displays. They are a refuge foundation that houses more than 150 birds of prey from all over the world.
You will see fascinating birds soar through the sky and discover many things about birds like the Eagle Owl, the Griffon Vulture, the Caracara, the Ferrunginous Buzzard and the Harris’s Hawk. What better place to see these wonderful birds in flight than with the best view of the Malagá coastline as the backdrop?
Falconry is an ancient tradition that is kept alive by dedicated fans who have learned the skills that have been passed down through many generations.

There are a few choices for beverages, snacks and food.
La Cima Restaurante – enjoy your food with the best views that being 700m above sea level provides. They serve food such as; burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, chips and salads.
Ravine Kiosk – is a charming little hut, just after you get off the cars at the top, where you can buy a coffee, snacks and freshly made smoothies.
Main Cafeteria – this is located at the main entrance where you can enjoy a coffee, juice or snack before or after you cable car journey.
