About AquaMijas

AquaMijas is a water park located in Mijas Costa near Fuengirola, in Málaga, along the costa del Sol. It first opened in July in 1986. 

It opens from April to September, once the park is open they are open 7 days a week. The ticket office closes an hour and a half before the park closes and all the attractions and slides close 15 minutes before the park closes.

Prices

Tickets prices are divided into 4 age brackets;

• Adults: From 12 to 64 years old - €27.90
• Junior: From 7 to 11 years old - €21.50
• Child: From 3 to 6 years - €16.50
• Senior: Over 65 years - €19.50
• Babies and toddlers: under 3 years old – FREE

Juniors are given wrist bands so they can easily be identified as they can go on the slides on their own, however they are not allowed in the areas designed for children who are 6 and under, which I think is a fabulous idea as the smaller ones can enjoy their special areas without the bigger kids splashing and getting in the way, the lifeguards are very on top of this and ask any children with wrist bands to leave.

Children six and under can go on a few slides but have to be accompanied by an adult or a junior.

• There are often many promotions, If you book your tickets online then you save 15% off the full price of the tickets, just be aware that you need to do this at least one day in advance as you cannot buy tickets online for the same day.
• If you shop in Carrefour they often have leaflets with a discount at the tills that can get you €5 off per ticket (up to four tickets at a time).
• One of the best savings they offer is for late entry, if you go after 2.30pm (or after 3.30pm in July and August) then you get a 30% discount.
• There are family tickets with many different options depending on your family.
• They have an option to buy tickets for two days at the same time making it cheaper.
• If you find your dream home in Spain (we would love to help you at Mediterranean Homes) and become a resident of the province of Málaga then you get a special discount in September, valid on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. You need to purchase these tickets online and provide proof of residency (DNI or NIE number).
• If you are or become a resident of Mijas or Fuengirola then you get a special discount valid on Saturdays, again proof of residency is needed when buying tickets online (DNI or NIE number).
• AquaMijas have joined with Bioparc to offer a discount if you bought tickets for both parks together.

Extras

Not everything is included with your entry fee. These extras can add up and make your day very expensive – but do you really need them? Let’s see….

• Sun loungers - €4.80 each
  Do you really need them? The idea of relaxing by the pool while the kids play is lovely, but is it realistic? How old are your children? Do you need to supervise them the whole time? My kids don’t like to sit still, especially when faced with pools and slides, if we rented sun loungers we wouldn’t get to use them. Plus we want to enjoy as many attractions as we can while we are there, in my opinion, I can sunbathe in my garden anytime, but water parks are for having fun and connecting with the kids.
  
  There are a few grassy areas with umbrellas where you can take a time out, don’t forget to bring a picnic blanket or you can sit on your towel.
• Floats
  Single float - €7.80
  Double float - €10 
  Mats - €3
  
  All require a €10 deposit which you will get back when you return the float.
  
  Again – do you really need them? There are only two rides that require the use of floats, there are a few free floats you can use but you need to queue for these and depending on when you go you can be waiting a very, very long time. If you rent a float you can pass the long queue, so if your favourite ride is the River Adventure or the Bravo River then it could be worth paying extra.
• Security boxes - €4.50
  You also need to pay a €5 deposit that you will get back when you return the lock and key along with the receipt. I do think this is necessary if you don’t have someone to watch your belongings. The boxes are only small so you can only fit small valuables in it like, phones, purses/wallets, money and jewellery.
• Cloakroom - €2.50
  A personal choice if you need to use this, for us, once we have locked our valuables away we only have towels, food and sunscreen left in the bag.
• Welcome photo
  Again this is a personal choice if you would like this or not. When you first enter they ask if you would like your photo taken. They usually take a couple of group photos and then individual photos of each child. When you leave they have the photos already printed and you can choose if you want to buy one, two, all of them or none of them. They are not cheap, the more you buy the cheaper it gets per photo. It is a lovely memory to keep but can get quite expensive if you get them every time you go. I just politely refuse the photo when we walk in as I know I’m too tempted to buy them when I see them at the end!
• Souvenir shop
  It has every thing you could possibly need to enjoy your day in the sun and the water. Personally I try to keep my children away from these shops as they are usually more expensive and they don’t really need anything from them. Though they are a huge help if you run out of sunscreen!
• Virtual Area
  There some virtual experience machines you can try at an extra cost.
• Washing Machine
  A giant ‘washing machine’ experience that rolls you around and around for an additional cost.
• Spa
  There is a small portable spa where you can relax and enjoy a massage or special treatment, costs vary.
• Game room
  Arcade games and ride on machines for the little ones, this is pay as you go, usually €1-2 at a time.

Food

There are quite a few options for food and drink at AquaMijas. There is the main self-service restaurant, there are also a few snack bars and kiosks including a waffle bar. The food is typical for an amusement park, pizzas, burgers, chips, salads, drinks, snacks and ice-creams, etc.

One thing I really like is that you can bring your own food and drink to AquaMijas! The last thing my kids want to do is sit down and eat a big meal when they could be off playing. Packing a small lunch and some snacks is all they need. Of course you have to weigh up the cost of buying food there or bringing your own food in a cool bag. If you do want to buy food there you can get a discount if you order your food online when you buy your tickets.

There are a few shaded areas with picnic tables for all to use.

Attractions

• Kamikaze – 7 years old +
  The most daring slide at 17 meters high, it’s a
  very steep, straight slide over 30m where you go down with your arms crossed
  and reach super fast speeds. Hold on to your swimming costumes!
• Wild River – 7+
  You need to use a single float to go down this river, you can wait in line for a free one or pay to rent your own for the day. You start the adventure in a pool where you need to get onto your float, then drift down the river with slopes and turns, there are three pools along the way before descending in to the final pool, total route is just over 107 meters.
• Crazy loop – 7+
  This is a closed slide, starting from 13 meters high, with different coloured sections which create a fun light effect as you slide down 100 meters of twists and turns till you land in the pool at the end.
• Maze of Slides 
  There are two open slides, starting from 13 meters high, that loop around each other before splashing into the pool at the end, 108 and 92 meters of fun twists and turns. There is a yellow slide and a green slide, 7+ can use both, children between 3 and 6 years can go down the yellow slide with an adult or child 7+
• Diver-Dragón
  This is a fun introductory slide aimed at the little ones, only 7 meters high with a sliding length of 46 meters. Children 6 and under need to be accompanied by someone 7+
• Adventure River – 7+
  This open slide is for the more adventurous, starting at 10 meters high the river takes you on a 100 meter journey, gliding through turbulent waters with fast drops and highspeed turns, you need to use a single or double float to enjoy this ride.
• Body Ski
  A wavy straight 50 meter slide, with four tracks so you can race your friends. Starting 10 meters high, you can whizz down on a single or double float, a mat or on your bum. Children 6 and under need to go down with an adult.
• Wave Pool
  A big pool that is designed like the beach with a deep end that gradually get shallower. Every hour on the hour there are waves to enjoy.
• Blue Lake
  This is the main big pool that you first see when you walk in. There are sometimes fun classes like AquaZumba where you can dance around and have fun.
• Lizards Island – 6 and under
  This is a wonderful play area in shallow water for little ones 6 and under. There is an island they can climb around with a couple of small slides, there is also a barrel that fills with water that has a rope you can pull to tip the water out. There are two giant lizards that the kids can climb on with lots of little water sprays they can run through.
• La Jungla children’s pool – 6 and under
  A slightly more adventurous pool only for kids 6 and under, with lots of small fun slides of different heights, widths and colours. There is a small double slide that has a barrel over it that dumps it’s water when it fills up and there is an elephant that sprays water over one of the slides.
• Jacuzzi
  Sit back and relax in the jacuzzi pool with water fountains and bubble jets. Children 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Best Time to Go

Of course it is really popular for both locals and visitors during the peak months of July and August, the weekends can get really crowded so try to avoid them if you can. There can be very long queues waiting to buy tickets when the park first opens in the morning, It’s a good idea to turn up at least an hour after opening time so you don’t have to waste that hour stood in a queue. Also, the last hour the park is open is a lot quieter with less waiting times for the rides so I do really think it is worth getting the late entry with 30% discount as it is also a lot to spend a full day under the glaring sun and you still get to enjoy all the attractions. 

In Spain, most of the schools finish at 2pm, so we love to go in September after school when it is still really hot but there are far less people there, I don’t think we had to wait more than a couple of minutes for any slide!
